Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.
PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.
Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.
The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.
However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.
In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.
The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
